Aphex Twin (Richard D. James, b. 1971) is one of the most influential electronic musicians of the late 20th and early 21st centuries. Known for his work in ambient, IDM (Intelligent Dance Music), and experimental electronica, he reshaped the boundaries of electronic composition and sound design.
He was born in Ireland, raised in Cornwall and began experimenting with electronics as a teenager, building his own instruments and manipulating tape machines.
Released early tracks under different aliases (AFX, Polygon Window, Caustic Window).

He pioneered much of what became known as IDM — though he resists the label. Infamous for eerie visuals, especially the distorted “Aphex face” that appears in many videos and artworks.
