Four Tet (Kieran Hebden, b. 1978) is a central figure in 21st-century electronic music, known for bridging experimental sound design with dancefloor accessibility through a distinctive blend of folk samples, ambient textures, jazz loops, house rhythms, and global influences.
Before launching his solo career, Hebden played guitar in Fridge, a UK post-rock band. His solo work under the name Four Tet began in the late 1990s, characterized by a highly personal approach to sampling and composition.

Dialogue (1999) introduced his jazz-sample-driven downtempo sound; Pause (2001) and especially Rounds (2003) established his reputation for blending organic instrumentation and digital manipulation, sometimes called “folktronica.” Tracks like “She Moves She” became emblematic of early 2000s experimental electronica.

He released a steady flow of singles and EPs exploring garage, house, techno, and minimalism, collaborated with Burial and Thom Yorke on acclaimed EPs (Ego/Mirror, 2011), became known for eclectic DJ sets, mixing ambient, Bollywood, grime, and house seamlessly and released albums like Beautiful Rewind (2013) and Morning/Evening (2015), continuing to blur genres.
Sixteen Oceans (2020) returned to lush, melodic textures with strong rhythmic foundations; Parallel and 871 (2020) explored ambient and archival material; Three (2023) refined his minimalist club sound into a spacious, hypnotic form. Collaborations with Fred again.. and Skrillex, including surprise b2b sets at major festivals (Coachella 2023), showcased Hebden’s ability to bridge underground credibility and mainstream appeal without compromise.
